Description/History:A wide angle view of the old Frisco freight depot shows the freight office left and the string of 30 bay doors extending 400 ft. to right where teams and wagons and later trucks backed up to load the merchandise that had come in for delivery to Springfield and area businesses. It is hard to imagine that on the evening of Sat. July 27 a party atmosphere prevailed with music and dancing in the vacant, somber building to mark the official opening of the new freight depot considered by some to be finest west of Chicago. The old passenger depot once stood to right of picture as did the more recent passenger station that replaced it.
